Middlemore Foundation

Middlemore Foundation is a Counties Manukau based charity whose purpose is to support Middlemore Hospital, and improve health and wellbeing in the local community.   Counties Manukau has the highest level of socioeconomic deprivation in New Zealand. As a result, the region has some of New Zealand’s worst health statistics.

Funds from the Sutherland Self Help Trust were used to purchase a Dynamap machine with mobile stand, a Titan manual wheelchair and a mobile shower bed.

The Dynamap machine allows staff to complete the necessary checks of patients vital signs in a timely manner, bringing the total number of machines on the ward to 3.

The wheelchair enables patients and their whanau to access the outdoor area for much needed time off ward into the fresh air.  It also allows staff to transport patients who cannot manage the walk to the gym and the lounge to access these areas for rehab sessions and social interaction.

The Viking mobile shower bed possibly has been most appreciated by staff and patients. It allows patients who are unable to sit for a shower to have a bath.  Families often report their loved ones need a wash, having not had one prior to transfer or being unable to access the shower at home, and they truly appreciated staff being able to provide this basic need in a comfortable manner.

“Thank you for the kind donation to enable us to purchase a shower bed, dynamap machine with mobile stand, and a wheelchair. This equipment has had a huge impact on our patient care and enabled patients to do so much more.” Middlemore Foundation
